Making your home sing Mondays

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday linky party!  Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one).

My point with each Monday post is, what are YOU doing or going to do today to make your home sing?  It can be an attitude or an action. So have fun, do some blog hopping, and link up!  Thanks!

Topics can include marriage, parenting, encouraging women, organization, cleaning, saving money, our behavior and attitudes, homemaking, homeschooling, recipes.....the opportunities are endless.

Note: We had 137 linkups last week!  You guys are awesomely amazing and amazingly awesome!  Don't forget to visit one another and try to leave a comment on at least one blog to encourage someone today!  :)

On the left sidebar (down towards the bottom) is the "Making Your Home Sing! Monday" button which I'd love for you to grab and paste into your post!  It is a "no-follow" button.

My schedule is all off.  It is Saturday night as I write this but my mind is trying to tell me that it is Friday.  Also, I confess that I STILL haven't unloaded the dishwasher yet.

Do you know how unusual that is for me?

Usually I unload it first thing in the morning or my son will do it.  It IS his job but sometimes I will go ahead and do it.  Today he worked all day, came home for five minutes and left again. So no help there.

I just pretty much laid around in my pajamas while Christmas threw up all over my house.  I had my hubby drag out the Christmas boxes yesterday, put a few things up, and then lost my momentum/energy.

Today wasn't much better.  I don't have an excuse.

Frankly, I blame the Christmas Hallmark movies.  Not even kidding.

So now it's nearly 9 p.m. and I have a dishwasher to unload and a kitchen to clean up.  The counters only have a couple of things on them so it will take less than ten minutes to unload and reload the dishwasher and get my kitchen clean.  Still I put it off.

I do that sometimes.  I do like a clean house and I prefer to go to bed with everything back in its place so the house is clean when I go to bed.

But I can also be my own worst enemy and put stuff off until I find myself cleaning the kitchen at midnight or 1 a.m because I can't stand waking up to a mess, or folding laundry or running around straightening up and putting stuff away, because I didn't do it earlier in the day.

I have even been known to allow things to pile up for a couple of days and then have to dig myself out.  I don't do that very often though, because I hate playing catch up.

So I have got to whip this kitchen and house into shape before bedtime.  It shouldn't take too long because I haven't let it get very far gone.

Even so, who wants to clean their house after 9 pm?  I don't recommend it as a rule, but sometimes house rules just have to be broken in order to have peace of mind and sanity!  ;)

So why am I still writing this post and not cleaning?  I blame the internet.

Fair warning: if I DON'T stop procrastinating then things ARE going to pile up and I'm going to have a lot of cleaning to do and going to get grumpy.  Just sayin.

I just remembered that I also have to update the church nursery calendar so I can hand it out to the nursery workers tomorrow.  More work.  Oh fun!  ;)

I wonder what else I should do now that it's nearly 9 pm?  Vacuum the inside of my car? Mop the floors?  Regrout the bathroom?  Finish putting out the Christmas decorations? Shave my legs?  Groom the dog?  Bake cookies?

I'm stalling.  Can you tell I'm stalling?

Hmmmm.......baking cookies sounds like fun and a great way to stall.  It also totally makes sense that you would want to make a room even messier right before you're planning on cleaning it, right?

Before I go, next week I will tell you about our fun trip to Disneyland and the awesome family we were blessed to spend time with!  But for now, I think I'll go clean something.  Sigh.

We are going on vacation soon to visit Mickey and Minnie.  This time our whole family is going, including our oldest son and his wife.  I am looking forward to some family time with all of us together.

We are blessed to have people staying in our home and taking care of our dogs while we are gone

Pets always add an extra measure of responsibility when you're going on vacation, so it's nice that we won't have to worry about them.  I know that they will be much happier at home anyway.  Plus they will enjoy being spoiled with all the extra attention I am sure.

Since I am gluten-free, soy-free and (mostly) dairy-free I am so thankful that Disney actually has many gluten-free options for me.  That takes the stress out of eating there and I won't have to worry about getting sick.

I say "mostly" dairy-free because my doctor told me that I could occasionally have "real" cheese. Yum!  I drink rice milk and use dairy-free options for sour cream, ice cream, and American cheese. But I do enjoy real cheese and even yogurt on occasion.

Whenever we go out of town I like to make sure that the house is clean before we leave.  I like a clean house at ANY time but *especially* if I'm leaving town. Who wants to come home to a messy house? My daughter-in-law is the same way.

Things are always liable to get a little crazy when people start packing or get busy with last minute stuff.  So I just make sure that everyone picks up after themselves so that the house stays neat when we leave.  Especially since we often will have people living in our house when we're on vacation.  It makes it more comfortable for them as well.

I will be scheduling the linky party for when I am gone so that we can continue to make our homes sing each week.

Y'all have a great week and I will be sure to tell Mickey and Minnie that you said hello!  ;)

Finding Peace When Saying No & MYHSM Linky Party

Making your home sing Mondays

It’s so stressful and difficult when you’re pulled in many different directions with the needs of others and trying to balance your own family's needs as well.

I’ve been there.  Have you?

At the time it seems simple enough to say yes.  The person asking needs help, you assume it won't take too long and will easily fit into your already crowded schedule, and you just want to be helpful.

While you are happy to help, you can often find yourself stretched to the max and/or feeling stressed or even resentful.

There have been times when I will say yes even though I don't want to do it or it doesn't seem like "my" thing, because I think "Well, it's good to stretch yourself," or "But I'm doing it for the Lord!"

Many times I have said yes and been greatly blessed by it.

But sometimes I have said yes out of guilt, or the desire to please.

I have felt guilty for saying “no” many times, but sometimes I have felt even worse saying “yes!”

There have been times when I will jump to say “yes” without even prayerfully considering it.   Those are the times I usually regret.

In the past, I have had to set a boundary for myself to prayerfully consider a decision for 24 hours before I give an answer for something that demanded a big commitment or a lot of my time.   This is my little "secret" that works for me!

This has been a wise decision for me as it prevents me from making an impulsive decision that I may regret.  It gives me time to pray and consider and seek the wise council of my husband, (or even family and/or friends, if needed).

It has worked well, but sometimes I have crossed my own boundary!

The difference is the peace that I have when I say “yes” to the right thing and “no” to the wrong thing.  Now, keep in mind it might not be the wrong thing for someone else, but it is the wrong thing for me (at that moment, anyway!)  ;)

Find that peace!!!!  Say  “no” when your priorities demand it, and don’t feel guilty.

Realize you made the best possible decision given your priorities right now.   For YOU, today, saying no is better than saying yes.

Remember, when you say “no” to one thing you’re saying “yes” to something else, and sometimes that “yes” has to be to yourself and your family’s needs!

It is hard to say no, sometimes, but it's often even harder to say yes.

I have regretted saying "yes" many times, but I have rarely, if ever, regretted saying "no."
