Making Your Home Sing Monday: It's Time To Declutter!

Making your home sing Mondays

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday linky party! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one).

My point with each Monday post is, what are YOU doing or going to do today to make your home sing?  It can be an attitude or an action. So have fun, do some blog hopping, and link up!  Thanks!

Topics can include marriage, parenting, encouraging women, organization, cleaning, saving money, our behavior and attitudes, homemaking, homeschooling,recipes....the opportunities are endless.

Note: We had 55 linkups last week!  You guys are awesome!  Don't forget to visit one another and try to leave a comment on at least one blog to encourage someone today!  :)

On the left sidebar (down towards the bottom) is the "Making Your Home Sing! Monday" button which you are welcome to grab and paste into your post if you want but it's not a requirement.  It is a "no-follow" button.

This last week I decluttered some of my Christmas decorations.  I went from seven boxes down to four boxes, so I only decluttered by three boxes.  But still, it means I have three boxes less to store!

Then, because I was still "in the mood" I went ahead and decluttered some of the stuff in my decor box.  I am sort of over my "roosters" phase so I got rid of a couple of roosters and some other decor items.

Sometimes you've got to take advantage of the decluttering urge when it strikes because if you wait around too long, you may not be in the mood as much.

I also find that I can let go of things easier if I declutter a few times a year.  I may not want to let go of something but a few months later I may find that I am not as attached to it anymore.

I am not the only one who is simplifying.  My facebook exploded with posts this week from friends who are cleaning out their pantry, or their spare bedroom, or their home office, etc.  It seemed like everyone was longing to free themselves from some of their "stuff" that hangs on and threatens to choke us sometimes.

The end of the year seems like a good year to do that, doesn't it?  What is threatening to choke YOU today?  What things are YOU hanging onto that seem to own you rather than you owning them.

Let go, pass something along, or toss something away but spend a little time decluttering so that you can breathe a little easier this week and make your home sing!

I assume you guys have been as busy as I've been these last couple of weeks.  This is why I've barely been online.

I don't know how many of you are still around or if you're heading out to visit family for the holidays, but I figured I'd get this meme up anyway.

So have a very Merry Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior!

It's Not About Me And MYHSM Linky Party

Making your home sing Mondays

I love the Christmas season!  But one of the things I don't love about it is how crazy the stores are.  Even going to a grocery store can be a life changing event as you try and not strangle the 12th person that just bumped into you without even an "excuse me!" or park what seems like a million miles away because the parking lot is full.

Yesterday I had to go to the store.  I knew we were in trouble the minute we pulled into the parking lot and cars were frantically trying to force their way into the lanes in order to get a parking spot FIRST!

One car was trying to back out and another car wanted their spot, but THAT car was not following the arrows and was driving in the wrong direction.  The car behind the car backing out wanted the spot too.  So the car backed out but then couldn't leave because neither the car in front of him nor the car behind him were going to give an inch.

Horns were blaring as all three vehicles just sat there, unmoving, while traffic piled up behind and added THEIR horns to the growing orchestra.

Really?  Seriously?

All that tension, added stress and high blood pressure for a parking spot?

Now don't get me wrong, I have had less than stellar moments over a parking spot that I felt was mine, and found myself getting irritated.  But when it all comes down to it, it is a parking spot.

We may not be able to change how rude other people are but we can change how rude we are.  We may not be able to change how others respond but we can change how WE respond.

We may not be able to stop the problem but we can stop contributing to the problem.

So this week?  This week I am going to shop intentionally, with grace. That means I am going to try and give grace to others when they shove me out of the way in order to be the first to get through the door, or run into me with their cart yet AGAIN, or try and shove their way ahead of me in line.

I am also going to try and NOT be the one who is shoving other people or knocking my cart into theirs because I am not being careful or honking my horn because I am impatient.

I am going to try and smile and be polite when others are rude and demanding.......even when it kills me.

And I am not going to shorten MY life by a few seconds or a few years by getting all steamed up over a parking spot.

With the Lord's help I am going to make my home sing this week by intentionally looking for opportunities to be gracious and unselfish.....because I can be very selfish and ungracious sometimes.  But this season is not about me. It's about Him.

And when it comes right down to it......it's just a parking spot.

Yesterday

Yesterday I was a mother to two little boys.  Yesterday I was wiping noses and changing diapers. Yesterday I was wondering if they would ever sleep through the night.

Yesterday I was praying for just five minutes of peace and quiet.  Yesterday I was hoping no one would find me in the bathroom.

Yesterday I prayed for just five more minutes of sleep.  Just five!

Yesterday I was tripping over toys and telling them to please come put their coats away.

Yesterday.  It just seems like yesterday.

Today it is very quiet when I get up in the morning.  Today there are no noses to wipe or diapers to change.

Today there is no one waking me up in the middle of the night asking for a drink of water.

Today I am a mother of two young men.

Yesterday is gone, but today is just beginning.  Today is brand new, just waiting to be written.  There is much to find joy in today.

"This is the day the Lord has made.  We will rejoice and be glad in it." - Psalm 118:24

Take Out, Anyone?

I did.  I really did type too fast and sent the above message.

After reading it, my hubby made me laugh by sending this message in response.  It read:

"I'm working late."

As I said, spelling is everything.  Take out, anyone?

Christmas Traditions! And "Making Your Home Sing Monday" Linky Party

Wow, this year is going fast!  I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving!

Right now it looks like Christmas threw up all over my house.  All we did was pretty much drag the Christmas boxes out but no real decorating has been done yet.

I've been watching Christmas movies 24/7 on the Hallmark channel.  O.k., maybe not watching 24/7 but I love the Christmas movie season!

My husband has already informed me that we need to watch "White Christmas,"  which is also our daughter-in-law's favorite Christmas movie.   Our eldest son wants to watch "Miracle on 34th Street" which is HIS favorite and I'm pretty sure that our youngest son will want to watch "Jingle All The Way."

MY favorite Christmas movie is "It's A Wonderful Life."

Isn't it funny how some movies become a tradition?  I remember watching "The Wizard of Oz" every year as a child with my family.  Not at Christmas time, of course, lol!

You can make a tradition around a movie, a book, a song, a place, a food........the tradition opportunities are endless.

Christmas traditions bring back warm memories of Christmases gone by, of family members who are no longer with us, of precious moments when our children were younger, and even of our own childhood.

Making a birthday cake for Jesus, new pajamas on Christmas morning, baking and decorating sugar cookies, Christmas caroling, making a snowman...........these are traditions that you might choose to observe every year.

Some of our family traditions are things that we did a couple of times and then one of our children declared it a must have, and thus a TRADITION was born!  Some traditions eventually end, of course.

For example, our children used to sleep in front of the Christmas tree the first night it went up and the last night before it was taken down.  This tradition carried on for years until they got to be teenagers and sleeping on the couch was fine for one but the loveseat was too small for the other, which left the hardwood floor......they tried it but didn't like it much.

But the awesome thing about tradition is that you can always make a new one if you want, or you can choose to keep an old one.  You can even modify a tradition!

This year I'm choosing to keep our tradition of watching favorite Christmas movies, and driving around looking at neighborhood Christmas lights.

What traditions are you choosing to keep this year?   What is YOUR favorite Christmas movie?  Renew an old tradition, discover a new tradition and make your home sing!
