The Day The Pastor's Wife Shook Up The Church

I once meant to tell a bunch of people from church that my husband loved Pawnstars.  Only Pawnstars is NOT what I said.  You can use your imagination to figure out what I said.  The word that I accidentally used starts with a P and rhymes with Cornstars.  Go ahead and figure it out.  I'll wait........

Did I mention my husband is a pastor?

I have to admit that there was a startled silence at first as people tried to figure out whether I said it on purpose as a joke or just meant to say something else instead.  But they quickly realized I wouldn't say that as a joke.

So someone said "Nan, I don't think you meant to say what you just said," and they all started laughing.  "What did I say?"  I asked.

When I found out what I had said I quickly clarified "PAWNstars.  His favorite show is called PAWNstars!!!!"

Giving mini heart attacks and stirring up trouble.  Yup, that's how I roll.

  1. Whoops...at least they knew that wasn't what you meant to say & they all got a good chuckle out of it!

  2. LOL!! Sorry... I shouldn't laugh, but I have been there and done that many times..... and so has my husband. Good times though.
I wanted to thank you for visiting my blog and your comment. I can imagine that you feel as if you are in a fishbowl with being a pastor's wife. So many people have the perception that you should be a certain way. We have 3 pastors and each of their wives are very different and some people comment a lot on their different personalities. You are a woman, a wife, a mother and just because you are a pastor's wife, it doesn't mean that your life is perfect, or that you are either. We all are sinners saved by grace.....and we should extend grace to everyone because I know I need it daily!! Thanks for sharing and for being REAL!! I am your newest subscriber!

    1. Yes, we're all different. I joke that the ability to sing and play the piano did not come in my pastor's wife kit, lol! However, our oldest son does both!

You are right, none of us are perfect, saved by grace. I have a hubby with a great sense of humor who tells me that I am married to him, not the church. I am the pastor's wife, not the church's wife.

But we have some great people there who love me in spite of myself, lol!

  3. Hi 'Ethel' :-D Glad to hear that your still keeping everybody guessing as is our motto. chuckle, chuckle.

The other day as I was watching Law and Order SVU (?) I heard somebody unlocking the front door, so I pushed pause on the remote. I looked up to see our eldest son, with bugged eyes, as he exclaimed "What in the world are you watching?!?!!!!" I had done an epic freeze/pause. Think of the show. Let your imagination flow. yup. "Do we have to have a tlak young lady?!?" My then smirking son went on... That weekend he made sure everybody in the family knew the story. My responding 'I get no respect' just seemed to encourage them.

    'Lucy' here, signing off

    1. I have never seen that show, at least not that I know of. I've probably seen a trailer or a little something while flipping channels though, I don't know. Is that the show with that red-headed guy?

But based on your comment, I can imagine that there was a scene that caused your son to ask the question, lol!

  4. HAHAHAHA! I really did laugh too. My husband and I got hooked on that show for awhile and I would purposefully not tell people that we were watching it because I was afraid of doing exactly what you did. Oh dear. At least you were with people who were comfortable asking if you had really meant what you had said. How terrible if it was someone new or shy? Oh dear.

  5. Oh my word, that is awful....and rather funny :) Thankfully you were with people that totally understood :) Isn't it amazing what can come out of our mouths without even thinking?!

    Hugs to you,
    Stephanie

    1. Yes. It can be very embarrassing. I know some people who talk very slowly and evaluate what they say before they say it. Unfortunately I'm not usually one of them, lol!

  6. Yup, most of the time we're our husband's greatest asset, but every now and then our mouth runs faster than our brains and we're in trouble. Thanks for the laugh today :)
