31 Days Of Making Your Home Sing

(The 31 links to this series are at the bottom of this post!)

Welcome to 31 Days of Making Your Home Sing!  Which would you rather have?  A home that sighs or a home that sings?

I want a home that sings.  I want a home that smiles, a home that laughs, a home that is happy and loving and joyous.  I don't want a perfect home because perfect people don't live here. I want a home that relaxes and doesn't take itself too seriously.

The next 31 days I am going to be writing about ways to make our homes sing.  I hope you will join me.  I have to admit that I am somewhat terrified because it recently dawned on me that 31 days means 31 DAYS!!!!  In.  A. Row.  Let's all stop so I can just panic a minute, o.k?  Join me, won't you?

My memory isn't great on a good day, lol!  So hopefully I will remember this whole 31 days in a row thing.  I'll try my best, o.k?  Feel free to throw chocolate and diet pepsi at me if I mess up.

I hope that you will come visit me each day here so I won't get lonely!  We can make our homes sing together.  If you want to make it easy on yourself you can follow me or subscribe in your reader or by email.  The links are also in right sidebar as well.

Making Your Home Sing Monday

Making your home sing Mondays

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday meme! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing?

It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money....the opportunities are endless.

You might have noticed from the post above this one that I am joining the 31 Days Of ____  peeps.  Talk about intimidating!!!!

(By the way, did you ever notice that I love me some explanation points????  Hmmmm, I guess I love me some question marks too.)

Meanwhile, back to the blog. *cough*

I am going to try to blog 31 days in a row!!!!

Did I mention that was 31 days In.  A.  Row???

I hope you will come and visit me sometime during all that and occasionally pinch me to make sure I am still alive and breathing and having turned into a blubbering mess.

I think it's funny considering I haven't been blogging very much lately, and certainly not every single day.

But I've been wanting to get back into blogging again and figured this would give me just the violent shove over the edge gentle push that I need.  I am excited about it!

So that's what I will be doing to make my home sing every day for the next few weeks.  I hope you will join me!

What are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing? Please go here for instructions and/or ideas and come back here to link up to join us today! Making Your Home Sing Monday: I Have A Meme!

So wow, I have a meme!  In my previous post I was rambling about the fact that I couldn't delete, couldn't put in spaces between paragraphs, and couldn't put my meme graphic up.  So I didn't have a meme, lol!

It seems that blogger and I have made peace for now, as everything is working.  So far.

However, I spent so much time struggling to write the other post and get the other post up and getting frustrated that I have now run out of time to do anything but get this one up with the linky.  My kids will be home any minute from youth group, and then we have our family time.  Sunday night is "our" time, lol!

I guess it's more of a college or business/career type group since my kids are older now, but I still call it youth group out of habit, lol!

Anyway, here's the meme. I am going to make a list this week of everything I have to do and try to stay on track.  I have a pretty busy week with appointments and meetings and buses to meet and....well, yeah.  I'm busy, just like you.  Writing it down will keep me on task and also give me the fun of crossing things off!  That's how I'm going to make MY home sing this week.

What are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing? Please go here for instructions and/or ideas and come back here to link up to join us today! Making Your Home Sing Monday.....Ooooops!

Sorry but there won't be a linky today until I get this all figured out.  This is my first post since blogger updated their dashboard, etc., and I am having trouble writing a post.  It won't let me put in any lines between paragraphs and I can't seem to delete anything.  By the way I meant it won't let me put any spaces between paragraphs, but I can't delete the word lines because it won't let me.  Also, I can't seem to put in my graphic and write after it.  It lets me put in the graphic but then it writes IN FRONT of it.  Sorry for the rambling but I can't delete any of this, lol!  I've tried writing in both html as well as compose but still can't put any spaces between paragraphs!  Anyway, I will try and figure this out asap, thanks!

Some weeks, like this week, I don't know just HOW I am going to make my home sing this week. Sometimes I am tired and trying to pick one thing to focus on is not what I want to do.

The beauty of it all is that we never have to worry about finding something because there is always SOMETHING out there.

There is always something we can do to make our homes run more smoothly and peaceful. There's always something we can do to make our homes a joyful, happy place to be. There's always something we can do to make it a place of love and laughter, a home that sings.

It doesn't have to be something big, expensive or time consuming. It can be as simple as trying a new recipe, lighting a candle, or dusting the coffee table.

Any small change is still a change and moving you in the right direction. So make a small change today and get started on making your home sing this week.

Dear Gum Chewer

Dear Gum Chewer,

My heart aches for you when I think of how distressed you must have felt when you saw that garbage can five feet away. Oh the agony you must have experienced when faced with the need to carry that gum another five feet, knowing you just couldn't do it and overwhelmed with the burden of it all.

Oh the pain you must have felt abandoning your gum on the ground like that, a gum tha
t had always been good to you. Oh the sadness you must have felt as you discarded it and walked away....never knowing what would happen to it.

I wonder if you were even able to sleep that night. I wonder how long you cried and how many tears you shed.

Fear not, for my shoe discovered your gum and bonded quite happily with it. Not only that, the brake pedal on my car extended its friendship as well.

You will be pleased to know that your gum lives on, my friend. I hope someday that you will discover the joy of finding and rescuing some poor, abandoned gum yourself and taking it home with you.

Hugs and kisses and bubble gum wishes,

~ Nan

Making Your Home Sing Monday: Tearing My House Apart

Making your home sing Mondays

This past weekend my husband and boys went to a men's retreat, and so I did what every normal woman does when she has the place mostly to herself. I tore the house apart.

Yes, you heard me right. I decided that I really needed to do some reorganizing, so I started with the papers in my desk. Then I moved onto my paper files. Then I decided to do some rearranging in the family room, straighten the dvd collection (some stray ones were lying around), figure out what needs to go to Goodwill, helped my mom with stuff she was sending to Goodwill, iron some of the few shirts that needed ironing and I'd been avoiding, vacuumed the family room, did laundry, cleaned off the clutter spot on top of the microwave, etc.

The problem with this is that I never really finished the original paperwork project. So piles and piles of paper are strewn everywhere as I divided my time amongst other things.

By the time my family got home Sunday night there was no clean place to sit in the living room (however the family room looked fab!) Can you say "bit off more than you can chew?"

Right now my cleaning/organizing frenzy looks like it threw up all over my living room. But this is what happens sometimes. The processing time can be terrible.

Usually, when I organize, I just take out a little at a time, never more than I can deal with at one time. At the end of the day, if I didn't get everything organized, I put what's left in a corner or a box to await the keep/give away/throw away decision at a later time. This way, it keeps the mess small and keeps it from overwhelming the house.

This time, I was pulling things out of cupboards, drawers and closets because I had all the time in the world, right? Wrong!

Fortunately, things like this don't phase my hubby or kids. I suppose it would if we lived like this all the time. But hubby just laughed when he realized there was literally no place to sit down in the living room, and the kids didn't say a word.

So, this week I will make my home sing by taming the paper tiger. In the living room I have piles of paper to be shredded. I still have some files to be filed! I have piles of paper to be thrown away. I have a pile that hubby needs to look at. I have to finish reorganizing my desk. I have laundry to fold.

Then, I will probably find something else that needs organizing!

Making Your Home Sing Monday: Change It Up For Fall

Making your home sing Mondays

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday meme! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing?

It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money....the opportunities are endless.

It's fall, y'all! Sometimes I feel like all I do is say, "Wow, where did the time go?"

I have been debating on whether or not I feel like dragging out my fall decor. If I do, it means that I have to take down my spring/summer decor and replace it with the fall. Obviously, because it's not going to happen on its own.

I just don't know if I am ready for it to be fall. Are you ready?

It's hard to feel all fall-y when I am still wearing tanks and shorts but I know that some gloomy weather will be on its way soon.

Some of you don't have the change of seasons as we do here, so maybe "warming" a room up does not have the same appeal to you as it does to me. Seasonal decorating can be as simple as adding a candle or a quilt to a room for a quick and easy way to go from summer to fall, and it's not a lot work.

Moving the furniture away from the windows in order to make a cozy arrangement is more work, but it's a fun way to quickly change up the season and make the fireplace the focal point.

As I said, I don't know if I am ready to drag out all my fall decor right now, but I might be up for some small changes. Sometimes just adding a candle or a quilt, as I said earlier, or a few baskets or roosters around the room is just enough of a change to make me smile.

What about you? What small changes can you make to welcome and change it up for fall and make your home sing this week?
