Making Your Home Sing: It's Raining Outside But It Doesn't Have To Be Raining Inside

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday meme! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing?

It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, marriage, parenting, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money....the opportunities are endless.

It's raining right now as I write this post.  Raining hard.

Many of us are heading into the winter months.  For me that means rain, lots of it, and snow - some of it.  In the winter months I stay indoors as much as I can.

I like to be warm, warm is good.

I imagine that many of you will be spending much more time indoors too, and it got me to thinking.

Is your home UP to it?

If' you're going to be spending a lot more time indoors, you're going to be spending a lot more time in the company of your home.  Is your home up to the company?

When it's raining and cold some of us want to wrap ourselves up in a warm blanket and park ourselves in front of the fireplace with a good book.

Some of us get excited about getting to "all those projects" that we've been putting off and start organizing closets and cupboards and drawers like our life depended on it.

Who knows?  Maybe it does!

How do you feel when your home is a mess and all chaotic? Do you feel calm and peaceful and relaxed?

Or do you feel anxious, and stressed and discouraged?

What do you want to feel like when you're holed up in your home for the winter? What do you want to see?

Do you want to see this?

Or this?

Or this?

Dreary, cold, wet weather outside can have an affect on our personality and mood if we let it.  Don't you think that a dreary, cold, messy room can also have a similar affect on our mood?  What if your insides matched your outsides? What if your insides got all dreary and defeated and down because your outsides are all dark and dreary and disorderly?

Since you're probably going to be spending a lot more time indoors this fall and winter make sure that it's a place that you want to relax in. Bring the 'sunshine' into your home this winter.

It's raining outside but it doesn't have to be raining inside.

Open the curtains and let the natural light in.  Turn on the lamps.  Add some candles, books, blankets, plants and whatever else you like to "cozy" things up.  But don't stop there.  Pick up the newspapers, clean off the coffee table, straighten the pillows, load the dishwasher, make the bed, take the garbage out.

Find some time this week to tame the clutter monsters in your home.  Spend a few moments each day racing the timer or selecting a few things off a list to clean up.

Get your favorite room in order.  After all, you're going to be spending a lot of time there this winter.

Make your outsides match your insides and make your home sing this week!
