Making Your Home Sing: When Does "Tomorrow" Come?

Making your home sing Mondays

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday meme! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing?

It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money....the opportunities are endless.

Have you ever said "We need to be more careful about spending money" or "We need to stop eating out" or "We need to stick to our budget" or "We need to make a budget."

Isn't it funny how the words "we need to" often because synonymous with "ain't gonna happen?" Why is that?

I think it's because "we need to" means that we are acknowledging that we need to do it while at the same time inwardly we realize that we don't really want to do it bad enough. I mean we want to do it, we really do, but not enough to sacrifice for it. At least not yet. Some day.

And maybe, we really don't want to do it. We know we should, but don't want to.

Just by admitting that it needs to be done is enough for us. It becomes a statement of something that we should do.....some day. It becomes a worthy goal, a dream, a hope that "some day" we will do it.

We have voiced the need, and now we are free to move on.

Some day becomes tomorrow. Tomorrow we will do it. But not today. There's always hope for tomorrow. When does "tomorrow" come?

Maybe we don't know how or where to start. Maybe we know we should but we're too busy to make a plan and we have other priorities right now. But when it comes to saving money, that's a pretty good priority, right?

Maybe it's because it's not fun to deny yourself something. It's not fun to stay home and cook when you'd rather eat out. It's not fun to buy generic when you'd rather buy name brand. It's not fun to have to watch how you spend your money.

Well, what if we changed our definition of fun? What if we changed our definition of "we need to?" What if we decided to make a game of it instead of making it seem like work? What if we challenged ourselves to see how much we could save each month? What if we quit putting it off until tomorrow and just started today?

What have you been saying "we need to" in your life lately? How long have you been saying it? Are you any closer to doing it? What's holding you back? Do you want to do it? Do you need to do it? Is it important that you do it?

Change "we need to" to the words "It's important that we......" and start making that need a priority and make your home sing!

  1. We are *so* there as a family! Nearly a year ago we decided that we would start saving our so that in 2-3 years we would have enough saved up for us all to go on a family mission trip to Costa Rica. Every time we wanted to eat out or buy something not on our list, we put the money we would have spent into an envelope.

Little did we know that God's plan was NOT for us to go to Costa Rica. That envelope ended up having a little over a thousand dollars in it when we peeked two months ago after God told us our adoption dream of "someday" just became "now." We are so glad we stopped the extra spending and started saving it because now our whole family will be going to Ukraine - and we'll be leaving as a family of 5 and returning a family of 6 or 7 (as God provides and opens doors!).
